BREAKING THE FAST FOOD HABIT

March 11th, 2008 at 06:19 pm

On my way back home from work, along Rt. 46,there is a Subway, KFC, McDonalds,my favorite pizza place and a B.K. I've made the fast food detour many times, including yesterday. I ordered my food at K.F.C. (to be honest I was not even hungry)and while eating it I said to myself, "Boy this is not worth the six bucks I just spent" and I was a bit angry about not being able to resist the urge.

Today, I decided that if I can get through the 3 mile stretch I can start breaking this awful and costly habit.
Now, my question is, How many days do you think it'll take me to stop this habit?
I say at least 20 days.

I've heard that it takes at least 21. And I have to tell you that we have a stretch of road that is pure fast food. Temptation alley!

Best wishes for meeting this goal! You'll feel so much better after time, fast food won't even taste good. Subway is about the only one my body can handle anymore.

    Debbie,
I have also heard that it takes 21 days to really start a new "habit". I know you can do this! My family gave up fast food last year on 1/1/07 after watching the documentary, "Supersize Me". After watching that it was easy!!! I recommend it if you need motivation along the way. Smile

six weeks to ingrain or break a habit to change your life. break this down to weekly goals.

Try cutting one day per week at a time. Make your goal manageable. A funny about fast food places: we're trying to teach our son WHY we don't buy those foods for him and he'll list them out with his own names that crack us up (I don't know, maybe no one else will find these funny):

    KFC--he calls it "White Guy"
Taco Bell-"ringing bell" or "yucky bells"
    El Pollo Loco--"the fire place"
    White Castle--"white king"
    Burger King--"Big King"

Maybe if you say some funny names about those places, it'll help you remember how "silly" it is to eat their food too! I don't know, call me crazy...

    Good luck.

If you break the habit it will no longer be tempting. I am so used to home cooking I can barely stomach fast food these days. Blech. So with time the temptation shouldn't really be there either. which helps!
