I NEED YOUR ADVICE, PLEASE!!!

July 24th, 2008 at 04:22 pm

Ok guys I need some advice. You know that car loan my husband and I have (my son's car), well I think I want to pay off the loan. The reason? I can't stand to pay the interest on this loan, especially when I don't even make that much by keeping the money in the bank. If we pay off the car it would leave us with about 6 months of living expenses in savings. Should I pay the loan off, or should I sucked up and pay the interest and keep the money in the bank? My son will continue to give us $200.00 for the term of the loan. Your thoughts on this?

I would pay the loan off.

If you feel comfortable with paying it off, then pay it off. As for me, I like the idea of money in the bank, but might accelerate the payments to pay it off sooner. I think it all has to do with whatever makes the most sense to you and your household.

I would pay it off... you could add your son's 200 a month back into your savings....

If the loan is just in your names and son is paying the full payment...then I guess I would not pay it off with your money. In fact, I would then use the money to reduce your truck loan balance...even though you don't have to pay interest. The sooner you are done with payments...the sooner you can add more to retirement savings.

Well, if you can swing it, and assuming that the title is in your name, you can pay it off. And then, when your son pays you off, you can change the title to his name.

    Something like that.

I would pay it off. I just hate debt. Sometime just the joy of being free of a debt is worth it. best wishes.

Oh yes, pay it off. Surely you are paying more in interest than you are earning in savings.

if you're worried about it that much, you could pay off half of it, just to keep both sides happy :d
