Downsized on We TV and other updates

November 14th, 2010 at 06:38 am

I watched "Downsized" on WE last night. I was shocked that the Dad at one point was making $1.5 million a year and he's now barely making $2k a month. I could not help to wonder if only these people would've play their cards right, financially speaking. One can have it all one minute and lose it all in an instant.

_______

We closed on our refinance Tuesday. We should be receiving $2k back because our quaterly property taxes were accounted in the settlement, but we had already paid for them. We should also see a reduction in principal of $1.029.59. The loan we chose allows a maximum of $2K in cash back.

_______

I have to do a little bit of food shopping but I don't think I need to spend any out of pocket money since I found a Walmart store credit of almost $40 in my purse.

_______

Lots of bills to pay this week so very little (or if any) we'll be going to savings this pay period. DS#1 told me has close to $4K in savings and $2,500 in a CD. He saved the $4K all by himself, the CD money is partially our contribution, birthday, Christmas, Communion and allowance money. We are hoping he can pick up a Friday or a Saturday at his part-time job once he starts at the state university in January. He won't be able to work during the week since his class schedule is a bit crazy this semester.

_______

I've washed and hung to dry outside about 4 loads of laundry. The weather here has been awesome, at least for the weekend. Made banana bread last night!

I hope you all have a great Sunday and a great work week.

DH and I watched. We both kept saying "get a thermos" to the wife. However, her MS does throw another screw into the whole show. Having just been diagnosed with a chronic condition that is much, much less severe, my heart does go out to her.

I've watched both episodes so far and I am very intrigued....the one big thing that really bothered me though, was on last night's episode when they went to see the financial planner, he stated they were spending $500 a month on eating out! That just floored me....I'm sorry, but when you are on food stamps (which I have no problem with especially in their situation), I do have a problem with that kind of thinking and spending, especially when for the past two episodes they keep saying they just don't know what they are going to do and how they are going to pay the rent ect.....just my .02 Smile
On another note, a big kudos to your son!

PNW, I agree with you! $500 on eating out is insane.

Yeah I forgot to mention that too. With all those kids, someone can be helping cook.

I want to know where the dad to Laura's kids are? Why isn't she getting child support for them? I also find it a bit annoying that the husband is still trying to make it work as a contractor. That business is in the crapper right now...especially in AZ. I think he needs to find another profession.
