April 23rd, 2011 at 08:47 pm

Don't mean to brag but this buffalo chicken pizza was super delicious. Another keeper!!

Dough and a little more

April 22nd, 2011 at 06:42 pm

Day off from work today. I'm waiting for the butterhorn rolls and pizza dough to rise. I will prepare the dinner rolls today. I'll refrigerate the pizza dough for tomorrow. Can't wait.

$$$$$$$$$$$

We have to pay the summer tuition bill for DS#1 by May 16th ($4,600). Quarterly property Taxes for both houses are due May 1st ($2,888). Very expensive month coming up!

Have a great weekend.

Update: the dough yield was 32 dinner rolls and 2 pizza crusts. Trying buffalo chicken pizza tomorrow. Wish me luck.

This week's update

April 16th, 2011 at 02:52 pm

Hubby earned an extra $283 and I made $12.50 extra this pay period. I added these amounts plus a little extra to round it off to $300 and made an extra mortgage principal payment yesterday. We have trimmed $7272.96 out of $15K target goal for 2011 so far. Woo Hoo!!!

Today I'm going to see Ricky Martin in concert (an early Mother's Day present). We are splitting the parking and going out to dinner before the concert. There are five of us going, so it should be fun.

Test drove a 2011 Toyota Prius Hybrid, but I'm still not convinced that we should add another car payment to our budget. I think we are sticking to the plans of public transportation starting in September. I'll let you know.

Still pretty cold here so no luck trying to economize with the heat at my house. I hate being cold.

Hope you all have a great weekend. ((HUGS))

Exploring other transportation options

April 11th, 2011 at 10:29 pm

My husband and I were discussing ways to forgo purchasing another vehicle. We already have a truck payment ($395) for another three years and college tuition for DS#1. We don't want to find ourselves in more car debt. We have explored buying a used car, but so far we have not found anything that is worth while. It finally dawn on me that I can probably take the train to work and back for about $75 a month. My husband is willing to buy a a used motorcycle to get around when weather permits. I think that this may work until DS#1 and DS#2 are done with their schooling.

Getting a little annoyed

Is anyone annoyed at these new so called bloggers trying to convince you that a certain item is a good buy (gaming systems, headphones, etc)?

Basic Homemade Pizza Recipe

April 8th, 2011 at 12:22 pm

For Amber and any other bloggers wanting to try making your own pizza . The crust costs about $1.25 (especially if you buy the ingredients at Aldi. It's just water, yeast, honey, olive oil, salt and flour.

Presenting my improved homemade pizza!

April 8th, 2011 at 12:24 am

In a previous post I posted a picture of a homemade pizza I made. It was good but the crust was not the best. I got a recipe from someone at moneysavingmom.com and I tried it today and it is so much better and it's definitely a keeper.

Here is a picture of my improved pizza:

April mortgage payment

April 5th, 2011 at 07:56 pm

April mortgage payment hit today. Total principal paid this month= $1,178.17 (including an extra principal payment of $150.21). I updated the mortgage principal reduction category on my sidebar. I also transferred $171 to the principal today; $71 of it was from cashing a bucket of coins I had laying around. I'm so excited!

Weekly update

April 4th, 2011 at 01:42 am

The warm weather was definitely on my side today. I was able to dry four loads of laundry outside. We are expecting another day of good weather so I'll wash and hang a load of white clothes plus bed covers and sheets.

I'm off from work this whole week for spring break. Tuesday will be a busy day with taking DS#2 to Lacrosse practice, the dog to the groomer and a dentist appointment. I will use a gift card and Groupon certificate to Barnes and Noble also on Tuesday during some down time between the dog groomer and dentist appointment. I'll save on the gas by doing everything I have to do on Tuesday. Gasoline around here is at $3.45 a gallon.

We've been looking at new cars lately and came very close buying a Chevy Cruze, but decided against it because the price tag is $23K and having a hefty car payment aside from the truck payment we already have makes me very nervous. I think we will shop around for a used car or an older model new car that we can pay for using some money from our savings. I think we will end up buying a Honda (maybe another Fit).

Did I tell you that I'm going to see Ricky Martin in concert soon? I'm treating myself for an early Mother's Day present. Price tag for the ticket= $147.00. Can't wait! On the mortgage front, I transferred another $100 towards the principal. I can't wait to see the balance once the April 1st payment hits. So far, we're up to $5,894.79 out of the $15k 2011 goal mortgage principal reduction. I'm trying to convince hubby to sell the rental property.

This is it for this week! I hope you all have a frugal and wonderful work week.

Frugal deed of the day: 4 loads of laundry air dried outdoors.
