I'm going to pay the car loans off. That would slash close to $800.00 off our budget each month. We would still have a year's worth of a bare bones budget. I don't think we will ever take out a car loan again. I feel suffocated by the debt.

I officially closed the books on April's debt repayment today. We paid $4,880.21 extra to our mortgage principal. Most of it comes from a $3K income tax refund. We also made a $700 car loan payment (almost double the payment) and a regular payment of $394.21 for hubby's truck loan. April's grand total debt repayment is $5,974.42. Woo Hoo!!!
Today has been a rather difficult day. Aside from not sleeping well last night and students with spring fever, I'd been feeling sad. I know the cause of my sadness and it's called empty nest syndrome. DS#1 has just one more semester left of college and has been offered a full-time job as of September (I'm happy for him). He is also thinking of moving out.
DS#2 will graduate from high school at the end of June and he is talking about joining the military now (vocational school is still an option). I like to think that I've done a pretty good job at raising my boys. I'm also aware that my children are not mine to keep and they need to spread their wings just as I did when I was their age, but I often find myself wishing they were little again.
We scheduled a mortgage principal payment for tomorrow for $4K. Three thousand of it is our federal tax refund and the other $1K is from my husband's monthly overtime check. If everything goes well, we'll probably hit $190K mark by the end of June.
I decided to join the daily spending challenge.
