NSD/ fitness/finances

July 28th, 2012 at 09:04 pm

This week we had five no spend days. Woo Hoo!!! Now that I joined Weight Watchers, I've been making an effort to walk at least four days out of the week. I met my goal for this week today. I am definitely going to try to walk more if weather/mood permits. I really had to push myself today! Weigh in is on Monday and so far days 1-6 have been good.

____________

Things are moving in the right direction although we will have some big bills coming up. DS#2 college tuition, textbooks, flood insurance for the rental property and property taxes for both houses. On a happy note, the rental house property taxes went up about $40 a year. I sure wish the property taxes on the house I live in would stabilize or stay the same. We pay more than double the rental property's taxes on this one.

____________

The boys are both working and saving their money. DS#1 has close to $8K saved and DS#2 is saving the majority of the money he is earning at his part-time job. I made two extra principal payment earlier in the week, one for $50 and the second one for $397.00. The $50 payment was the amount in the coin bucket. I figured why keep it in there when I can put to work for us.

Well this is it for today! I hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

Weight Watchers

July 27th, 2012 at 08:36 pm

I joined Weight Watchers on Monday and this time I am determine to shed the many extra pounds I'm carrying. I set some fitness goals for myself and that is to walk at least 4 times a week. This is my third day walking and today I walked 2.5 miles. I'm also going to reward myself with something nice after I lose the weight. North Georgia Gal and I are corresponding via email to support each other since we are both doing Weight Watchers. I have Christmas time in mind to meet the bulk of my weight loss goal. Would you please cheer NGG and I on this journey?

July debt repayment update

July 24th, 2012 at 12:41 pm

I'm closing the books for the month of July. The total debt repayment is $38,861.88. Of course, this huge amount is due to mortgage principal payment of $37.5K in which we used half our savings to reduce the mortgage debt. God willingly, I hope to resume paying our debt down once September rolls around and we start working again.

Financial Security?

July 21st, 2012 at 09:31 pm

I am almost certain that this topic has been touched upon here. Today I have come to the conclusion (for the time being) that financial security for me would be the ability to pay for my bills with a minimum wage job. What does financial stability mean to you?

Update

July 19th, 2012 at 06:35 pm

Last week we decided to use half of our savings to pay down our mortgage and our mortgage balance is now $142k, down from a loan that originated on January, 2011 with $243K original balance. We are hoping to continue to pay down gazelle intense until we wipe this debt completely. Granted, this will happen if nothing changes in our financial situation. /

DS#2 is doing well at his new job. He is excited to put a lot of money away in his savings account. He is also showing interest in personal finance and I'm happy to share what little I know. DS#1 is also saving the majority of his income. He plans to save enough money to buy a house.

We were thinking of selling our 2 family house soon, but DS#2 asked us if we can hold on to it until he is out of college because he wants to buy it from us. We decided that we would keep it and sell it to him. If he has a change of heart by then, we will proceed with the sale.

I'd been feeling a little under the weather lately; I'd been moping around with no desire to do anything. Frown

Well this is for today. I hope you all have a great weekend.

2012 financial milestones met

July 11th, 2012 at 02:44 pm

The get "under the $200K" mark on total debt (car, truck and house financial milestone was met today. I'm so excited that we are chumping down our total debt steadily. Honestly, owing money literally chokes me and I cannot wait for the day when I can tell you all that we are totally debt-free.

Another update

July 10th, 2012 at 12:18 am

Festivities around my house culminated on Saturday with a pig roast to celebrate DS#2 high school graduation. We had a great time with family and friends, but I'm exhausted. Thanks to the generosity of those invited, my son received $1k in cash and couple of gift cards. He deposited the cash into his account since he had some cash on hand earned by mowing neighbor's lawn and watering her grass and flowers. On another note, DS#2 found a part-time job at a local supermarket. He starts work on Wednesday and he is super excited and we are too!

Debt repayment:

Mortgage principal paydown update: Hubby and I decided to utilize half of our savings to paydown the mortgage. If every thing goes according to plan by mid August we will apply $37.5K to the principal, reducing the principal to $142K. We are hoping to get this monkey off our backs sooner than later.

Truck loan is finally under $10K and I'm still trying to pay down the car loan. NO MORE CAR LOANS FOR US, EVER AGAIN!

Well, this is all for today. May you have a good work week.
