When we were paying our mortgage down, I would say that we were living "Below our means", now that the house is paid for, I'd say that we are living "Within our means", but what does it really mean? Even with my hubby being out of work we are able to put away a substantial amount of money aside in savings. My husband is collecting unemployment benefits, which I put aside, just in case he runs out of benefits and there is no job lined up. If we really, really watch our budget we can put aside more than $600 without counting on unemployment benefits. We accumulated two consumer debts that are not in the credit card category and are at 0% and 2.99% respectively. I'm paying extra on both accounts but I will stop adding extra on the 0% account in order to get rid of the 2.99% debt. So, my question is, are we living below or within our means?

This past week, I made an extra $285 working 9 hours and 10 minutes after work. Yesterday, we spend $283.15 on groceries, car maintenance, two mums and my darn expensive bifocal contact lenses. So gone are the $285.00 but I'm glad this expense does not have to come out of the budget.
On Labor Day weekend, we purchased much needed furniture for our living room and a queen size bed and dresser for our DS#1. We also purchased a coffee table and I needed something to decorate the table so instead of buying new things, I decided to use items we have in the house. I have to say, it looks very nice and it cost us nothing. I also bought a three panel wall decoration that were marked down to $9.99 from $20 each. To my surprise, each panel was marked down to a little over $6 at the cash register.
We finally said goodbye to our sons' childhood bedroom sets. We gifted the boys' Captain's bed sets to my husband's great nephews. These beds were in incredible good shape. I splurged on a day trip to New York City to see Newsies on Broadway. I can't wait; I'm going with four of my girlfriends. Next Saturday is apple picking day. I love fall!
I was credited 5,108 swagbucks by the Swagbucks credit card today. 3,500 were for bonus rewards and the rest for the monthly rewards. I was very happy to see that many swagbucks in my account. I also made an additional $185 working 6 additional hours at work.
I managed to find a way to make an extra $300 a month (most months). I signed myself to help supervise the breakfast club at work. I just have to make sure that the kids get their breakfast and direct them to go outside to the playground when they are done eating. I have to sacrifice an hour of sleep time but I am okay with it. I hope to put all this money towards our 25th Wedding Anniversary Celebration fund and to purchase my two annual tickets to see Broadway shows in New York City.We are now on a strict budget to make up for hubby being out of work.
Well, I hope you all have a wonderful and frugal weekend.
