Summer treat and Anniversary Party fund

June 24th, 2014 at 05:25 pm

In the summer hubby and I enjoy an almost weekly trip to our local Dairy Queen for ice cream. I love their butter pecan hard ice cream on a sugar cone and hubby usually likes to have a small soft vanilla cone. The price tag: $6.02. Yikes! This weekend we decided to get Breyers ice cream on sale for $2.50 for half a gallon. We bought vanilla and butter pecan as well as sugar cones. We paid $6.69 and we still have plenty of ice cream left and few more sugar cones. This week, Shoprite has Friendly's ice cream on sale for a $1.98 for half gallons. I'll wait until Saturday to get it.

We are half way through our 25th Anniversary Party fund and we have until next April to come up with the whole amount of $5K. We also took the house off the market because it just did not feel right and besides the purchase of the other house fell through. Oh well, life goes on. We are eating what we have in our freezers this summer hoping to clear everything out and replenish our stock in September. I made pumpkin chocolate chip muffins with a can of pumpkin puree I found in my pantry. We've had some lovely days around here; cool enough to still to do some baking. Smile

P.S. Two no spend days (yesterday and today). My goal is to make it to five days in a row.

Good idea on the ice cream. It seems like prices are going up everywhere.

You do get more for your money by scooping your own ice cream! Enjoy.

Same thing here! We love our ice cream and I found that a tub (not sure the size, but the big one with the handle) accommodates two rounds of treats for us - some of mine prefer shakes and malts so we've used the VitaMix for those. Toppings and waffle cone bowls round out list of fun items.

I bought two containers of Breyers at that price, too! I don't allow myself a lot of ice cream, but Breyers is worth the calories and the lactose!
