Summer Savings Goals Established

April 21st, 2015 at 06:14 am

Every year during this time, I tend to set financial goals in preparation to the summer months. I am employed from September-June with summer months off. Luckily, my husband works year around and this year I chose to do summer savings at work. I will get a paycheck on July 15th and August 15th. I have set a savings goal of $6K by June 30th. This amount represents some big summer bills as well as a summer vacation to an all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with my sons. We also have to start putting some money aside to cover our sons last year in college (Spring and Fall of 2016). We have the next semester covered already and partial.

It helps to have goals doesn't it!

I really like the idea of squeezing spending between May and July 1st. We have a lot of visitors expected in July and I'll want to run away from home by September. We want visitors who've never been here to see the sights so it ups operational costs for cars, food and water bills dramatically. We always try to do one unusual experience so tickets or fees need fundings and I've never managed to include those in the budget. This year Cirque de Soleil is here and tickets are truly expensive but worth the experience. I got notice that our nearby stable has increased the cost of their trail rides to $ 75. per person, ouch.

I am so glad that every place I taught at had the salary divided into 12 or 24 or 26 equal installments so I didn't have to worry about the two months not "working."
