Knocked out by a cold!

February 27th, 2009 at 03:23 pm

I had to take off from work because I'd been sick with a nasty head cold. This weekend, I'll complete my 3 graduate course and the next one will be in April.
I covered three classes Monday through Wednesday. I missed out probably during these past two days, but that is quite okay. I had been feeling run down for a while now. I guess it finally hit me.

We're scheduled to get our tax refund next Friday. We decided to put it in the summer fund until it's time to yank the inground oil tank. My husband will be getting estimate for the work throughout spring.

I hope you all have a frugal and lovely weekend!

Wedding anniversary!

February 24th, 2009 at 03:18 pm

Today is our 19th wedding anniversary! We celebrated last Saturday with a nice dinner. As I reflect back on our years together, I think that besides the love we have for one another, being on the same page on financial matters have helped us to keep our marriage together.

Income taxes

February 19th, 2009 at 03:44 pm

I'm e-filing tonight. We're getting $3700 from the feds and paying the state of New Jersey $250. I know some may argue that we should adjust our deductions and not give the government an interest-free loan. I can see their point, but to be honest I like getting a refund. This money helps us make some sort of repair to our house without pulling a lot of money from savings.

This spring or summer, we're planning on removing the in-ground oil tank. It'll cost us between $3500-$4200 to remove the old one and install an above-ground tank. Right now were spending a lot of money insuring the tank for leaks and to top it off, we're not able to shop around for better oil prices because the insurance is done through the oil company.

Max before and after

February 17th, 2009 at 11:52 am

Max got groomed today. His groomer is still charging the same ($37.50 for the last four years). Quite honestly I was expecting an increase for her services.
Hope you like like the before and after pics.

On my days off

February 16th, 2009 at 06:28 am

I'm off from work today and tomorrow. Lots of things to do during these two days off. Today, I'm applying for admission to Grad school and possibly meet with tax person to file. Tomorrow, Max is going for grooming and I have to go to the college I got my degree to request a transcript for grad school. Laundry is done, 3 loads dried in clothes racks. I feel really good about this, I save money and the environment. I did ordered two new clothes racks (chrome ones). They are nice and sturdy and best of all I got them for free using my Amazon.com rewards money.

Have a great and frugal week!

Extra income!

February 12th, 2009 at 04:19 pm

I covered 3 periods in school this week (37.50) and two hours of home instruction (60.00) for at total of $97.50. Not too shabby! My husband brought his monthly overtime check, $650.

I am taking my 3rd graduate course this weekend Friday night, all day Saturday and Sunday and another whole weekend at the beginning of next month. Intense, but quick.

I have Monday and Tuesday off from work. Max is going to the groomer Tuesday.

Have a great weekend!

Electric bill and other tidbits

February 8th, 2009 at 10:41 am

You know how we've been hanging clothes in a clothes rack lately in an attempt to save money and the environment; I am happy to tell you that we have reduced our electric bill $20 this month. I'm in the process of getting 2 more clothes racks from amazon.com using my rewards money. I'm also buying an ATV riding shirt for my youngest son for his 15th B-day (March 9th). He also wants the riding gloves, but I told him those will have to wait until I get more reward money.

God has given us a warmer day today, 56 degrees in northern NJ. I took advantage and hung a load of clothes and my bed linens outside. I checked them and they are definitely drying. Smile

Just an update on my extra income. I home instructed 3 hours this week ($90) and covered one class ($12.50)for a total of $102.50. Not bad!

Today, my town is holding a rabbies clinic for pets. I'm taking my dog Max to get the shot for a savings of $40. I'm hoping to get everything together so that I can file taxes.

On another note, I'd been feeling a bit run down lately. When I get back I'll just have to rest.

All shook up!

February 3rd, 2009 at 05:11 pm

Last night at about 10:30, Morris County, New Jersey experienced an earthquake. It actually woke me up, it was a rumble followed by an explotion. I thought that maybe something happened in the nearby Arsenal. Accordng to news, it measured 3.0 in magnitude. Luckily there were no reports of extensive damage.

Weekly update

February 1st, 2009 at 12:32 pm

Hello everyone! It's about 42 degrees in northern NJ. My husband was able to wash all three cars today and get all the salt out of them. We may get hit with another snow storm next Tuesday. My husband says that he doesn't care, he just wants to help prevent body rust on the cars (especially mine, the oldest of 3). I made extra cash this week ($60) and hopefully $90 this coming week.

We're making some progress with 2009 goals (see my sidebar). February is definately a very expensive month because our quarterly property taxes are due, $1993 for our house and $1100 for our rental property. I also have to pay for the graduate course I'm taking in two weeks. If I get an A or B, I'll get reimbursed by the board of education. My goal is to have 15 graduate credits by next September. It will help me go up on the salary scale because I'll have a BA + 15 credits. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that none of our tenants leave. I have to do some grocery shopping tomorrow after work. I'll be going to Target (I have a $35 gift card I'll be using) and Costco to get milk and a few other items.

May you all have a great and frugal week!
