A beautiful house

April 23rd, 2009 at 01:31 pm

I convinced my husband to make an appointment to see a house in a development in town I've long to live in for a while. The house is beautiful indeed. So what's the deal? The deal is that it's on the market for $465K and a $9200 a year tax bill. That's more than $100K more than what we owe on current mortgage and $1300 more in property taxes.
We both loved the house but came down from cloud 9 very quickly. I really don't want to compromise being able to save money and do the little luxuries we allow ourselves from time to time. I can dream, though? Can't I?

Vacation plans

April 16th, 2009 at 07:22 pm

We're thinking on going to Punta Cana, Domnican Republic the last week of August. We decided to book this vacation right after all of our financial goals have been met which I think will be done by May 15th, if not sooner. We are looking to stay in an all-inclusive resort so that we can have extra cash to to do the extra fun things at the beach. I'm looking for a good deal, but I will most likely use Costco traveling services. Has anybody been to Punta Cana? Any suggestions?

$1.90 out of pocket

April 15th, 2009 at 04:14 pm

I'm on Spring break this week, but the weather in Northern NJ has been pretty crappy. I was a little bored this afternoon so I decided to see what I could purchased at Sears with a $15 gift card I had. This what I got for $16.90 (only a $1.90 out of pocket).

Two hoodies for my 15 year old and three pairs of slippers for me! The hoodies were originally $24 each but were marked down to $4.99.The slippers were between $10 and $12 (I would've never purchased them at that price), but were marked down between $2.49 and $1.99.

Not too bad!

In the spirit!

I've seen these cupcakes in a lot of magazines, so I decided to give it a shot!
Luckily, we have a niece that keeps me thinking of the Easter Bunny and not feeling nostalgic of the days when my kids were little.

I made this Easter basket for my niece!

US quarter map completed

April 11th, 2009 at 06:24 pm

I finally completed my States Map (map of the US containing all 50 states quarters). I'm also buying the Washington, DC and the US territories from the US mint to hopefully show my future gradchildren. I like coins, I just have to learn more about the hobby.

Goal met

April 11th, 2009 at 07:03 am

I met my first goal for 2009! My saving goal for the personal account has been met and I think the other two will be met by the end of June. I might even have some surplus savings O/.

Good news.

Yesterday I met with my supervisor to review my Professional Improvement Plan. What this means is that he/she sits down with you and discusses what your professional goals are. During this review, your supervisor will also tell you if you are recommended for employment for the next year. There are 3 recommendations; employment with increment, employment with reservations of increment or employment without increment. The good news is that I was recommended for employment with increment for the school year 2009-2010. This means that at the completion of the first day of work, I will then become a tenured teacher. That's right, 3 years and 1 day. This may sound a little funny, but I'm almost wishing my life away, I just want that first day of work in September to come and I know it's a terrible thing to say.

On a another note, my sister's eye surgery went well. She will meet again with the surgeon for a follow up and discuss the surgery on the other eye (one eye at a time). Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
