Stress/what's happening.

January 29th, 2010 at 09:11 pm

My husband has been going through some rough times at work. Today more than ever I feel fortunate to have what I consider a nice emergency fund. Worst case scenario, we can live off my salary and the income generated from our rental house. I estimated that a bare bone budget would be doable if we lose his income. For now, I just keep praying that everything gets resolved. I can't imagine what people go through when a job is lost and there is no money to fall back on. Please, keep our family in your prayers.

On another note, I began writing my Teacher Action Research for my Masters. If I want my degree conferred in August (just in time to put in for an increase in the salary guide)I have to turn everything in May. The increase will be substantial, about $6500 extra a year. The first ten pages are due next week (Chapter 1). Tomorrow I'm going to the library hoping to finish the last four pages, revise it and give it to a collegue who has offered to edit my work.

My son is now enrolled in the nursing program at school (he'll be an RN when he is done). Tuition is still a bargain at the community college he attends even after a 5% tuition increase. Apparently, the college is busting out the seems because of the bad economy. I'm encouraging him to continue on to a four year college when he is done. My youngest is doing well; he is doing Wrestling and will play Lacrosse come Spring. His grades are still pretty good. I consider myself lucky to have decent young men at home(I see too much at the school that I work for).

I just realized that we've spent a lot of money on eating out this week so I put my children on notice about it. There will be no eating out for a while in our house. It's ridiculous to pay $6 for a value meal (junk food) at Bk or McDonalds. As you can see in my sidebar, I've earned $25 in Amazon.com using swagbucks. I've really earned $30 but I have not received it yet, so I have not counted that one.

Lastly, it has been very cold in our neck of the woods. It was 8 degrees just about an hour ago, but it actually feels like below 0. I guess we'll just have to deal with it until March or early April.
Thanks for reading my blog and monkeymama if you reading I have your family in my thoughts and prayers. Think of you often.

Have a wonderful weekend fellow bloggers.

Have you ever,,,

felt as if you are doing too much and wish you can escape the rat race? I'm feeling much like this today. I think it has to do with the fact that I'm very tired today. I spent Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia taking a graduate class on how to write a thesis. Learning about APA style was tremendously exhausting. Days like this I wish I would have saved up to pay our house cash and completed all of studies when I was younger. I think it's just my exhaustion getting the best of me. Sorry for this idiotic rant! Financially speaking things are still on the right track.

Again so sorry for the rant; I know I'm lucky to have a job, a home and a chance to go back to school.

Believe or not (not $ related)

my dog Max did this. I swear we didn't do it. He likes to smell the bottoms of my son's sneakers (probably to smell traces of other dogs' poop and urine). I thought you might get a chuckle out of this one!

Recipe and other financial matters

I finally got around to activating our ING Direct accounts. I moved all of our vacation money to this account and will be making automatic deposits in effort to go on vacation this coming summer. I'm also trying not to carry a big balance after all the bills are paid in our checking account; I rather keep any extra money in the money market account. I sent the $15 to my favorite charity yesterday. $15 represent the amount of the gift cards I received using Swagbucks.

It's back to work for me tomorrow (I'm praying for a snow storm to get that extra day). It's been awful cold in NJ; the wind is outrageous and it feels like 5 degrees outside. I wish I lived somewhere warmer. I'd never been fond of the cold weather. I'll be away from home two weekends this month. I'm one of the last 3 graduate courses for my Masters. The last two are independent studies and I'll be working on my thesis.

Today, I'm making chicken parmesan for dinner. Yesterday I made some delicious (I thought they were finger licking good) pork chops for dinner. I served them with white rice. Here is the recipe if anyone wants to try it:

brown 6 pork chops (I think I'll use boneless next time)with a little bit of olive oil.

Mix all of the following ingredient together:

2 tablespoon of worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon of white vinager
1 tsp of Italian seasoning
1 can of tomato soup
3/4 cup of brown sugar.
Add this mix to your pork chops, cover and cook for 40 minutes in low heat.

Serve them with white rice.
