After the snow storm

February 26th, 2010 at 03:37 pm

This is how our backyard looks like after the storm.

The kids did not have to go to school and we did not have to go to work. Hopefully there will be no other storms for we've used all of the snow days allotted. We'll have make one up already. I'm so looking forward to June 18th (last day of work), maybe the 19th now. We are over our grocery budget about $20, but I say that's not too bad. Most of our eating out was done with the $100 budgeted under the miscellaneous category. Washed three loads of laundry between yesterday and today and they were all hung to dry in the clothes racks. I did use the dryer for the comforter and bedsheets.

Nothing else happening here (I hope). Have a great weekend and for those in the northeast stay warm and safe.

20 years!

February 24th, 2010 at 02:03 pm

Today is our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We've had are ups and downs, but we've learned to deal with it. I could have not picked a better father for my children and better life partner. Smile

An invigorating walk (not $$ related)

February 22nd, 2010 at 02:06 pm

I decided to go for a walk yesterday afternoon. It was about 45 degrees outside and very sunny; I thought it would help me with my winter blues. I'm glad I did for I felt in a much better mood after walking. Today's work was uneventful and the day seemed to go fast. Working with teenagers can be very stressful at times. I've attached some pictures I took during my walk. Nothing fancy but I felt like capturing images of things that attracted me.

The park at winter time

I liked how cozy this house looked

Birds were chirping away yesterday

I think an artist lives in the house

February= SAD

February 20th, 2010 at 05:35 pm

February is the hardest month for me to survive due to SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder). I'm feeling so blue and sluggish I can't barely stand it. I'm just hoping the month of March is better for me. I'm trying so hard not to seek the help of medication. On another note, we e-filed our income taxes and the funds have already been deposited. We were able to get a nice credit for all the tuition we paid for graduate school for me as well as our son. Our summer fund is completed, but I will continue to put aside the $550 a month to use for home repairs and college tuition for our son. I won't have to pay tuition for me after July since I'm hoping to complete my Masters in Education degree by August. I know I'm being ambitious here but I'm looking to get a second Masters. I'm looking to get a Masters in Spanish, which what I teach now. The school district I work for will reimbursed up to nine credits every school year and besides if I continue studying I can go up in the salary scale (MA + 30 credits).

Today I decided that I will spend two or three weeks with my parents in Puerto Rico as soon as school is done in June. I feel the need to spend more time with them. Life is too short and I don't want to have any regrets. Besides it's such a relaxing time for me and my Mom spoils me with all of my favorite foods. I also have a lot childhood friends there (I still keep in touch via Facebook). Wink

I hope you have a restful and frugal Sunday and work week.

I hit the food jackpot!

February 13th, 2010 at 08:34 pm

My dear friend's husband was able to find work in Ireland so needless to say he won't be coming to the U.S. every two weeks like he used to. I'm collecting their mail and making sure that everything is well with their house. Before he left he told me to help myself to anything left in the refrigerator and in the pantry. My friend will be coming home during the summer months.

A peak at our snow storm!

February 10th, 2010 at 03:48 pm

I had the day off today due to the snow storm. It's still snowing but it's dying down a bit. Maybe we'll have a delay opening tomorrow. Enjoy the pictures.

Taxes and groceries

February 7th, 2010 at 05:20 pm

Apparently we are going to get a nice refund from the feds (about $7K). We are paying the state of NJ about $500.00. We've owed money to New Jersey for a few years now, so now they want to collect quarterly from us for 2010. It's bad enough New Jersey has one of the highest property taxes in the nation; I guess it is what it is. The town assessed our house (for property tax purposes) at $384K which means a yearly tax bill of $8,104. We'd be lucky to break even if we were to sell it. Oh, well.

We went grocery shopping today. $124.64 out of our $300 is gone. We saved $5.80 using coupons. We are looking to buy an upright freezer; the chest freezer we have is pain to get things out of it. On another note, tomorrow I will be mailing Chapter 1 of my teacher action research study. I have to be very disciplined from this day forward since the whole thing is due by early June. My husband's job situation I talked about previously is still up in the air and it doesn't look promising. I will let you know the outcome.

Have a great and blessed week.
