Two chapters away

May 24th, 2010 at 05:02 pm

from getting a Master of Arts in Education. I just received chapter 1-3 from my adviser. I'm currently writing Chapter 4, which is the results of my teacher action research study. I'm hoping everything goes according to my plans.

My dad's health is declining fast. Last week he had a mild stroke and we are hoping that he'll be okay. My sister is traveling to Puerto Rico this Wednesday so that she can get straight facts of my Dad's condition from the cardiologist. I'll let you know how everything goes.

Busy last three weeks of work. I'll be traveling to Florida the first week of June to attend my nephew's 8th grade graduation and meet my niece and nephew (10 and 8 years old). I'm so excited to see my brothers and sisters (there a 7 of us). I'm in NJ, one brother lives in Puerto Rico and the rest are all in Florida. I've not seen them in quite a while.

I hope you all have a great work week!

Happy to share with you!

We have three paychecks left until September 15th and if everything goes according to my plans (hubby hands me the checks and let's me deal with everything related to our finances), we'll be able to put away another $3500 in our savings. I'm proud to say that since September of 2009, we have saved close to $31,000. That's not including another savings account which I guesstimate we've saved an additional $3,000. I realize that we earn a decent income and we generate income from our two family rental home which were able to completely pay off when we were a single income family. Having said that, I feel that we have been good steward of the blessings God has bestowed upon us and living below our means has helped us achieve financial peace.

A question (hope someone can answer)

I noticed that one of my posts has a bunch of comments from people I don't believe are bloggers from SavingAdvice.com. Are we automatically viewed by other bloggers' sites? I don't think I'm very comfortable with that.

Inspired by Campfrugal's FOEM

May 10th, 2010 at 02:12 pm

I read Campfrugals' blog on FOEM Part I and I was inspired to see what I had in the fridge that would soon go bad. Guess what? I had two lonely flour tortillas, so I decided to make two breakfast tortillas for my hubby. I also made two extra savings of shrimp alfredo to freeze.

Thanks Campfrugal for your tips!

$240K mark

May 8th, 2010 at 05:14 pm

Our mortgage finally hit the under the $240K mark, $239,427.71 to be exact. I took a look at the amortization table and with the $250.00 extra we send every month towards the principal, we're paying a little over $650 in total on the principal. I hate to look at the amount paid for the loan interest, a whopping $1,075.00 this month ;( . Oh well!

I completed Chapters 1-3 of my Teacher Action Research. I'll have a co-worker revise it and off it goes to my adviser. The entire TAR is due by July 5th if I want my degree by August. I think I'm progressing nicely.

I'd been on Weight Watchers program for almost two weeks and boy changing eating habits is so darn hard, but I've decided that it is time for a healthier lifestyle. I'm on my 9th day without soda (3 cans a day habit). If I get passed the 21 days without it, I think I'll be out of the woods. There are days that I crave it so very much. I received a Weight Watchers 20 minutes meals from my son's girlfriend along with a very nice message. I was touched.

Tomorrow we will be celebrating Mother's Day at my mother-in-law. My mom lives in the Caribbean; I'll call her first thing in the morning. I'm hoping she received her Mother's Day card today. Mail is a bit unpredictable (it can take between 4 to 7 days).

I hope you all have a nice Sunday and for all the moms at SavingAdvice.com, Happy Mother's Day!

Walgreens freebie!

Get an 8x10 photo collage for free by entering GOODTHOUGHTS (all caps). I've taken advantage of this offer many times before. Be sure to choose store pick-up, otherwise you'll have to pay the shipping. Offer is good until Saturday

I have 6 weeks left of work and I'll be off for the summer. I'm not working for the two months; I feel I've been disciplined enough to save and I have accomplished our savings' goal. I'd been a little bummed lately with everything that's been going on in the State of New Jersey with regards to teachers and other public servants. I understand that the governor has to cut back (our district has done so), but it's the anti-teacher sentiment that has me a little distraught. I guess I'll just have to grow a tough skin when it comes to that.

Have an awesome Friday, fellow bloggers!

Oh May how I loath thee...

What can I say. Some big bills to pay this month:

$1734.00 (mortgage, but it includes a monthly an extra principal payment of $250.08)

$2025.00 (quaterly property taxes)

$756.68 (quaterly property taxes for the rental house)

$326.00 (car insurance)

and other small bills. This means that nothing went into our savings account. I was a bit frustrated but every three months I encounter these bills. You think I'd be used to by now.

It's been a rather warm day here in northern New Jersey. I was able to wash comforters and bed linens and put them out outside to dry. I was going to do the laundry tomorrow, but it's supposed to rain row and I really want to take advantage of the nice weather to hang everything outside. I really had to mustered up the strength to take care of two extra loads of laundry, but mission accomplished. This mean that I won't have to use the dryer at all. I will be buying two extra chrome clothes racks soon but I'm waiting to get them totally free using swagbucks gift cards and my cc reward certificates.

I'm enjoying a few hours of solitude at home. Hubby is working, son #1 is in a study group at school and son #2 is playing Lacrosse today (away game). So it's just me and Max (my dog). Okay, fellow bloggers may you have a wonderful weekend!

P.S. Oh... by the way, I'm liking all of the new bloggers, but I also missed some regulars that have not been posting lately. I hope you are all okay.
