A question (hope someone can answer)

May 19th, 2010 at 02:26 pm

I noticed that one of my posts has a bunch of comments from people I don't believe are bloggers from SavingAdvice.com. Are we automatically viewed by other bloggers' sites? I don't think I'm very comfortable with that.

Not everyone who reads here has a blog of their own. And then sometimes even people who do have blogs, might not log in properly, which would make them show up as black text instead of a link to their blog.

This site is google indexed, so yes it can be read by anyone -whether they have an account/login/blog or not.

I'm pretty sure I know which post you mean. Goodness, it looks as if a bunch of people think that when they are replying on your blog they are writing to the company that sent out samples you wrote about. That blog entry must be the first thing that pops up on some search engine when people search for that company. Weird!

I thought that was weird too. Almost none of those people are members of saving advice. I would not worry too much. I have been here 4 years and that is the first time I have seen this happen.

It appears that you are the top result in a couple of search engines and people are clicking and leaving comments without realising this is a blog post and not the mysampleshowcase.com site I don't think it is anything to worry about - just a quirk in the search engines for the moment.

I don't have a blog of my own, but I enjoy reading the SA site and getting tips and insights from people who blog. The internet is a very big place, and Google or other search engines can lead people in from all over the world. Unless they decide to make SA password-protected, or something, there will be no insurance of stopping outside viewers from checking out the information on the site. (But it IS good information!)

This is a good thing to keep in mind. Even though this site feels like a comfy and cozy and friendly little corner of the Internet, Uncle Google sees all. I guess it's unfair to blame only Google, after all anyone can just go to the site, but Google is ruthlessly and relentlessly efficient in capturing and indexing info these days.
