Need suggestions

September 26th, 2010 at 07:05 am

We were paying $110 (including all extra fees and taxes)for a bundle which included high speed internet connection, a land line and cable. Unfortunately the promotional year has expired and our bill is now $158. Quite honestly, in my opinion, I cannot justify paying so much money. Our phone barely rings, the TV channels are nothing to brag about and I can probably pay a little less for internet connection. We were thinking of dropping the land line and adding another cell phone for my husband to our plan. Yes, my husband does not have a cell. I think we can do without cable and get another internet provider. Does anyone know if we can get an TV antenna for the house to get a few channels? Can we still have internet connection without a land line? I'd really appreciate any suggestions any of you may have.

We have cable internet through Earthlink/Time Warner. No cable TV, no landline. Yes you can have internet without a landline. If you want dialup, you obviously will have to have some type of landline. Our cable internet is ~$45/month, which is not a promotional rate.

It's amazing how it adds up, isn't it? I just did a mental check and our cell phones come to about $70 per month, digital cable+internet is $86 (plus basic cable comes automatically in our building, so a portion of condo association dues are paying for it too). Ugh! I just don't notice because it's broken up like that. So clearly, I'm not the one who can help you, but good luck.

I am in the midwest and we use Cox Communications for our internet for $54 a month. It is high speed internet, but I think they have cheaper plans available. They also have bundled service, but we are stubborn and opt only for internet. The hubby has a cell phone with a company with the cheapest plan we can get for $48 a month. I have a prepaid cell phone that costs me around $7 a month, usually. I could not justify a family plan because I don't use the phone much. Another option for you might be DSL. I can't speak for cable tv, as we haven't had cable or satellite since 2001.

You need to call the company and let them know that you need to be in a different cheaper bundle or you will have to cancel your services. See what they can do for you. They want to keep your business.

campfrugal, we try that approach and they would not budge. I think we're cancelling. ;(
