I did...

January 22nd, 2011 at 07:29 am

something so out of character for me last night. My brother is getting married next Saturday in Florida and since I had already booked my surprised trip in February I told him that I would not make it. Then my sister calls me and tells me that I would be the only one not there. So I was thinking yesterday at work and I made a comment to my coworkers that I knew I was going to be very blue on Saturday knowing that all of my sibblings and my mom would be together having fun and enjoying each other's company. They told me that I should be there. When I got home, I asked my boys if they wanted to come with me and they said yes. Long story short I booked my weekend trip to Florida last night. I paid an arm and a leg for the airfare, but somehow I don't regret spending the money. Maybe, in my mind, I'm justifying it because we usually get a nice income tax refund. Who knows!

P.S. Hubby will be staying to care for our dog.

Mrs. Frugalista, I am so glad that you did it and decided to be with your family. And with the added bonus of having your boys with you, too! This reminds me of when I didn't go to my uncle's wedding in California. My kids were 4, 3, and newborn. I should have gone. All of my family was there to help. My parents would have paid. But I was too afraid to fly (my own stupid fear along with the dentist). Now I wish I had been there. Would have been the last time I spent with an aunt who then passed away unexpectedly and I could have gotten to spend time with a cousin. My point, as least you'll be free of regrets! And be with your family !!

Remember campfrugal's post about living life, even if it costs money? I'm looking at this now in terms of the value of the experience, rather than the amount of the check.

Thank you Laura! Your post reassured me that I did the right thing. I learned my lesson, I don't want to live my life with regrets.

I think you did the right thing too! It would be sad to miss such an important event...the witnessing of committed love. May it be a joyous time for all of you.

You did the right thing. Family events like that don't come around very often!
