What do you think?

August 24th, 2011 at 09:27 am

Thank God I have you to share the things some people may consider a bit ridiculous. My hubby found $7.35 yesterday and gave to me to do whatever I wanted with it. I decided to put it towards the mortgage principal. I realize that the amount is minimal, but I'm thinking long term and in the long run whatever amount it is will get me a step closer to paying the mortgage off.

That's a great attitude! Small changes add up if they become a way of life. Some people scoff at how we recycle cans or take surveys, but I figure a lifetime of that can make a difference.

why not? But do you have to mail it? Sometimes the postage cuts into stuff like that more than you'd like.

    I would do the same.

My overall financial philosophy is put ALL the extra to savings (mortgage, retirement, investing, cash, etc.). This makes our spending decisions rather independent of windfalls, and puts less pressure to save on a daily basis. (We still save on a daily basis, for sure, but our BIG "pie in the sky" financial goals get funded whenever extra money comes our way. That way it just seems easier - for us. & ensures we leave enough breathing room in budget to be content and happy to save every extra penny we find).

Thank you all! @My English Castle: We pay our mortgage online as well as extra principal online through Chase; it's not costing me anything to make these extra payments.

Petunia 100 has been "chipping" away at her mortgage a few dollars at a time and has knocked off at least a payment or two! Definitely go for it!

I think it is a smart idea!

I think that it is not only a terrific idea, but it also leads to a symbolic gesture of how dedicated you are to paying that sucker off! The more you do that, the more insurance you have of knocking future payments out over time. Nice going and great attitude!
