August update

August 20th, 2012 at 03:34 pm

I'm actually closing the books on the month of August. We paid $2,570.39 extra on the principal of the mortgage. As of today, our mortgage balance is $139,348.70 down $103,531.30 since January of 2011. Our overall debt is $165,779.15. Wouldn't it be nice if we could be at $150,000 in overall debt by the end of December of this year? I guess one can dream and push forward!

This is my birthday week! I went out to brunch with a few of my girlfriends on Sunday and had an awesome time. On Wednesday, my actual birthday I'll have lunch with my two of my coworkers. I'll be going back to work in two weeks. Luckily the mortgage is paid for until October 1st.

Well this is it for today. I hope you all have a great work week.

What would you buy?

I happened to be searching google for actual people who had set a goal to pay off the mortgage. I came across a blogspot named "Death to the Mortgage". This couple paid off their mortgage in about three and a half years on April of 2011; the original refinance amount was $148K. On Wednesday, they are closing the blogspot and have a new blog called, "Death to the Full-Time Job". Clearly, these people are goal oriented and are definitely moving on to the next goal. Blogs such as these keep me inspired and "gazelle intense" (sorry if you are not a Dave Ramsey fan)in paying down our debts. I often wonder what will be our next step if we happen to meet our long term financial goals. I know for sure that we will continue to build our savings and contribute aggresively to our retirement funds, but I have a confession to make. When we are done paying our debts I want to purchase my dream car: a convertible BMW (series 1 is perfectly okay with me). It may seem shallow and unnecessary to some, but I will be treating myself with this car. If you were completely debt-free (house and all) what material things would you splurge on?

I'd been...

feeling a little deprived. Facebook is getting to me lately with friends and family posting about their Hawaiian vacation, Cape May, beach outings every weekend, concerts, etc. Aside of my occasional outing to New York City, we tend to put every extra cent we have paying down our overall debt. It takes a lot of sacrifice and determination to live way BELOW our means to do this. We are getting there and honestly seeing our balances go down drastically keeps me going. I say "me" because my husband is a very low maintanance guy. He is perfectly content with going to work, watching TV and having a couple of beers here and there. I know most of these people are charging their vacations on their credit cards and it's funny most have complained about their financial situations and how broke they are. Have you ever felt the same way?
