Closing the book for September, 2012

September 24th, 2012 at 03:51 pm

It's been an emotional roller coaster for our family this week. As you may already know, our dog Max died suddenly on Wednesday. It's been so sad at the house; Max had been in our family since he was three months old. He was nine and half years old at the time of his passing. It seems to be a curse for me, both my Dad and my beloved Max left me without me having the opportunity to say goodbye. Some may consider that to be a blessing, but I don't. It really broke my heart to see my sons sob for our fur baby. They were so good to him, especially during his last hours. They took Max to the vet because I was already at work. Anyway, we've been trying to pull ourselves together for the sake of returning to normality.

I decided to close the books for September, since I won't be making any more debt repayment until October 1st. The total debt repayment for the month of September is $5,493.00. Our overall debt is $160,285.94 (including the house). / I do have to make a $777.00 credit card payment for the vet (emergency clinic). I thought he would come out the vet's office wagging his tail. Frown

On another note, the air is definitely crispier and fall colors are making an entry. I bought two huge pumpkins at Walmart for $5.88 each. I probably go apple picking this weekend. Nothing beats the flavor packed apples from the farm. Did I mentioned, I love Autumn?

My dog Max fell ill this morning and stop breathing while at the vet's office. I'm so heartbroken that my little guy is gone. If you're a dog lover and have gone through this experience, you probably understand the pain one feels. I just want to run and scream at the same time. I would have paid whatever it took to save his life. I'll miss you forever!

Happy dance

September 15th, 2012 at 08:05 am

Well, I'm doing the happy dance about my first paycheck since June 15th! Hubby also was paid his regular check plus his 'extras' check. I immediately made transfers to cover some rather big monthly expenses. On a happy note, we were able to make an extra principal payment of $2,608.00. This was mainly due to having our mortgage paid up until October 1st and hubby's 'extras' check. We keep moving forward with our mortgage pay off extravaganza. As of today, if we stop making extra mortgage payments, we'll be mortgage free in seven years. I'm obsessed with paying off the mortgage, so I keep on pushing towards this goal every month. I want to join the Mortgage Free club just like Ima Saver, Patient Saver and My English Castle. I think Thriftorama will be the next member though.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Just for fun!

If you could live in another country for a whole year, what country would you pick? I would go to Spain (Barcelona or Madrid).

Taking the good with the bad

September 1st, 2012 at 02:57 pm

I'll start with the bad! Our pool liner has a big rip and cannot be patched. This means that we have to spend about $2K to replace the liner, but we'll have until next spring to save for this expense.

The good news is that we made a $625.00 mortgage principal payment today. This payment brings us down to $138,723.20 from the $243K. Both of my sons continue to work and put their money into savings. DS#2 just got a $2 raise and DS#2 has saved over $1K in 5 weeks. DS#2 does side jobs (making oil changes, front brake jobs, lawn mowing, etc.) in addition to working a part-time job at our local supermarket. They are both hard workers, savers and wonderful sons and I'm extremely proud.

We are following a strict budget as of today, hoping to pay the remaining of our mortgage balance in two years. Let's see how that goes. Work starts for both of us this week.

Well this is it for today. I hope you all have a great extended weekend and a wonderful work week.
