Goals update

We paid an extra $3,580.21 towards the mortgage principal. Not too bad considering we had college related expenses. There are some big bills coming in February such as property taxes for both houses and a big credit card bill that includes airfare for my spring break trip. I think February will not be as spectacular in the debt repayment department.

150 days of Wellness update: To date, I've lost 5.5 lbs and continue to do Zumba and walk on the threadmill. I find myself making better food choices, but it is still a work in progress. In a short time, I feel like I have more energy and my headaches have become less frequent. Zumba is also helping me with the Seasonal Affective Disorder. I plan to step outside everyday to get some sun even though it has been bitter cold outside. Winter really wreaks havoc on my mental, spiritual and physical being.

A question about credit cards

I will be traveling to Europe this coming summer. Does anyone know of a credit card that has no currency exchange fees?

I'll be taking a break on "the mortgage paydown extravaganza". I'll be contributing extra mortgage payments but not as much as I did. The reason: I will be making two trips in the next six months. I'm going to Puerto Rico for spring break and France/Spain in June for ten days. I'm equally excited to make both trips. This will be my first time going to Europe. I'm going to Puerto Rico with my sister and I plan to visit the smaller sister islands (both actually belong to Puerto Rico), Viequez and Culebra.

On my 150 days of Wellness...I have been doing Zumba and the threadmill at LA Fitness. The food intake has been more of the challenge, but I feel that I'm taking the necessary steps to eating healthier.

Expensive week!

Between dog grooming and vet visit, yesterday and today, we spent $436! Oh well, needed to be done. We also managed to apply $2,200.00 towards the principal of he house, bringing our balance to $86,786.77. /

Bring me back to reality or tell me it's okay

Disclosure: Our son never asked us to do this! Here it goes...DS #1 has an opportunity to purchase a really nice townhouse for a very reasonable price. He has some money put away but not enough to qualify for the loan on his own. We ("The parents in us") thought of refinancing our home to get the cash out to enable him to buy the townhouse out right and then pay us his portion of the refinance to us. But the other side of me tells me "Don't do it!" If we refinance we will be going to a 30 year mortgage. Our existing loan only has 4 years left if we do not pay any extra principal. What do you think?

Organizing and Simplyfing

This past weekend, I was on a cleaning/organizing frenzy. Saturday I tackled DS#2 drawers and decided to organize his t-shirts like Audrea Dekker from Simple Organized Living organizes her family's t-shirts. The t-shirts sort of sit upright allowing the prints to show for each shirt. I was able to organize 33 of shirts in one drawer. Mind you, he is a smaller guy so the t-shirts are not too big. Overall, I love this organizational tip.

Day 1 of 150 Days of Wellness

As you all may already know, I'd been very successful thus far in paying down our debt. One thing I'd been a total failure is taking care of my body and I seem to lose steam quickly in this are of my life. Today was a bit warmer in my neck of the woods, so I decided to take a walk. I bundled up (layers) and walked about 2.5 miles. It was nice because the sun was very bright and it definitely helped me with my Seasonal Affective Disorder. SAD can get pretty bad for me in the winter. I intend to do something nice for me every day. Nothing big or spendy; today I painted my toes a bright pink to remind me of warmer weather. I also had a pretty successful day eating the right food. Cheers to a good day!

PS: I chose 150 days because in 150 days, I will be doing something very exciting. I will let you know what it is soon.
