An update

April 20th, 2013 at 06:08 am

Its been two weeks since we paid off the house and car loans and I can honestly say that it has been liberating. I just received the last Chase statement with a $0 balance as well as a $38 check for two days worth of interest that we overpaid. Now, I'm just waiting for the mortgage cancellation from the county.

We are moving on to doing some home repair projects. The pool liner, which ripped at the end of the summer last year, will be replace at the end of the month or beginning of May. The cost is $3,174.00, yes that much money for a pool liner. Crazy, right? Our next project is to repair the front porch. I think we want to go with the Trex decking so that we will never have to bother with it again.

DS#1 will be graduating from college May 20th. We are so happy for him! We are throwing a low key graduation party for him with just family, immediate friends and his coworkers. I have challenged myself to spend only $200 for food and I will be doing most of the cooking. I will begin preparing and freezing some items this weekend.

I'm itching to see another Broadway Show and I'm leaning towards Matilda. If I decide on this one, I'll take my niece with me.

Well, this is it for this update. I hope you all have a great and frugal weekend.

Completely DEBT FREE!!

We decided to payoff our car and truck loans. I just made an automatic payment to Toyota and sent a check to Ally Auto Finance. No more consumer debt. I feel blessed beyond measure. It feels great to be fiscally responsible. Next goal? Beef up our six months emergency fund to 12 months and begin cosmetic updates to our home paying cash for them. By paying the house and car loans we are saving $2,543.00 per month.

Mortgage $ O BALANCE!!!

Hubby and I went to our local Chase branch and paid the loan in full. We saved 3 days worth of interest, close to $20 on overnight postage an $10 for the certified check (free with the type of account we have). Hubby and I treated ourselves to some good food afterwards.

Soon to be mortgage free

Done deal. My son is now the owner of the rental home we've had since 1998. His mortgage is $1,029.00 (including principal/interest and escrow, but he will collect $975.00 from the upstairs apartment. Not too shabby. I will schedule the payment to payoff our house for next week when the check clears. It will be close to $78K. We will probably payoff the truck loan (the least amomunt owed), the rest will be added to our emergency fund).

My trip to Puerto Rico was awesome. Lots of good food and wonderful weather. We will also be getting a federal tax return of $2100, but we will pay the state of New Jersey over $250. We will use the money to replace the ripped pool liner.

That's it on the financial front. I hope you have a great weekend.
