Slowly back on track

November 30th, 2014 at 11:30 am

We are slowly getting our finances back on track after three months of financial limbo due to purchase/sale of homes. The first thing I did was put $300 towards our Anniversary Party fund. We are under our goal for a little over $1K. Not bad, especially since we decided to move it to early summer and celebrate it at home. We now have plenty of backyards space to do it.

I sent a mortgage principal check for $260,500.00 even though the first payment is not due until January 1st, 2015. That should leave us with a $55K principal owed. We are hoping to knock this sucker out as soon as possible. We did spend a lot of money on appliances this weekend but the money is coming out of our kitchen renovation budget.

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!

Bought and Sold

November 20th, 2014 at 08:20 am

We are all moved into our new home and the other house is sold. It was bittersweet and I have to admit that I got a little weepy when we left the house. We are waiting for our attorney to receive the check from the proceeds of the sale of the house.

We've been thinking about the kitchen reno and the kitchen has to be updated asap. We are not paying the house in full but we are making a a huge principal payment of $260K on December 1st (our first payment is January 1, 2015). According to our plan, I will have the house paid off in two years by putting an extra $500 to the principal. I hope sooner if we apply more principal each month. I think is doable (we've done it before). I honestly cannot live with the green formica countertop and deteriorated cabinets.

So, I'll be back on a paying the house in full challenge. This is our only debt.

One down, another one to go

We closed on our purchase as scheduled. We are very excited and we're looking forward to closing on our current home so that we can pay for the new to us house in full. That should happen within the next ten days. We decided to hire a moving company to move our stuff; way too many large and heavy pieces to move and hubby has a bad back.

Needless to say next week will be very busy since we are looking to be moved completely by next Thursday. I may have to take a personal day from work to set up the bedrooms. After all is said and done, our mission is to beef up our emergency fund and start saving for the kitchen renovation.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Tracking and more

November 1st, 2014 at 11:30 am

I decided that I would begin tracking our money since it's been a little out of control with buying and selling of both homes. Today, I went to shopping and found some good deals on food items we continuously use. I used a DD gift card I have to buy lunch, still some money remaining in the card. I also bought a nice 16 piece stoneware dishes brand new from someone selling it on an online garage sale in my area for $10. The box was a little mangled but the dishes were perfect.

Closing on our purchase is scheduled for this week but we shall see if the lender can stick to the scheduled date. I would not surprise me if they don't. Crossing my fingers! Oh, by the way we decided to pay off the house in January with the proceeds of our current home sale. Above ground oil tank was installed; and in the inground tank will be unearthed on Monday. Please pray or send positive vibes for a successful removal. We are nervous about it.

Have a great weekend SA Bloggers!
