Happy about decision

December 30th, 2014 at 05:24 pm

Today, a dear family member send me an email to ask me to give her the name of the realtor we used to buy/sell. Her hubby lost his job a few months ago and she mentioned that they may have to sell their home. Frown
I am so happy we decided to pay off the house. I am waiting for the payoff statement to be mailed to send the check. We've been in the same situation before when hubby lost his job for a year. We were able to keep ourselves afloat because we paid off our previous home a month prior to his job loss.

This will be my last post for 2014 and from the bottom of my heart, I wish you a happy, healthy and definitely prosperous 2015!

Paid ourselves first!

December 23rd, 2014 at 07:26 am

Both husband and I got paid today since teachers begin Christmas recess this afternoon and won't come back until January 5th. I automatically transferred 15% of our net pay to pay ourselves first and then I added $206 to the anniversary fund. We just have to be super careful because we won't get paid again until January 15th and that's quite a stretch. I also have to do grocery shopping since our fridge is almost empty. I'm glad we are back to saving money and making every dollar count.

Paying it off

December 22nd, 2014 at 06:25 pm

Well the kitchen renovation, as we want it to be, will cost way more than we want to spend; about $15K over budget. What a bummer! I was thinking all day at work and I came to the conclusion that the our money is best utilized if we pay the house off. I told my hubby of what I thought and he said to go for it. We are doing a little bit of work in the kitchen to spruce the place up until we replace the money. The appliances we bought should be coming mid January and that alone should make the kitchen look a lot better. We opted for top of the line stainless steel appliances. I will talk to hubby about maybe replacing the green counter top with a nice color Formica top. We can technically do the kitchen if we tap into the money we have aside to pay for DS#2 college tuition but we are not touching that money except for paying for his education. We gifted DS#1 with college tuition and God willingly we are doing the same for our youngest. I will wait a few days until the last payment I sent clears and then I will request a payoff statement.

On another note I want to wish you a Merry Christmas or a restful break.

2015 Financial and Personal Goals

December 18th, 2014 at 03:03 pm

My list of goals for 2015:

Financial Goals:

>Pay off the house by December 1st, 2015 (about $28K)
(Disclaimer: the majority of the mortgage was paid on December 1st using the proceeds from the sale of our previous home which was paid for)

>Add $5K to the Emergency Fund

>Send my Mom $100 a month (she is on a fix income and I want to try to make her life a little easier)

Personal goals:

>Lose 25 pounds

>Have a 25th Anniversary Party (we are pretty close to fully funding the budgeted amount)

>Visit my Mom in the spring

Can you share your goals for 2015?

Pay day

December 15th, 2014 at 04:42 pm

and in it was a pleasant surprise for my hubby. He took the health benefits buyout which is $5K (before taxes) payable in two installments. He received the first installment today and the next installment will be paid in June. The first thing I did was to paid ourselves, a little over 15% of net income. It's time that we buckle down and start saving again. We are sending an extra $25K to the principal of the mortgage, leaving us with another $28K to pay. Our goal is to have the mortgage paid off by December of 2015. We have also allocated some money for a kitchen renovation and college tuition for our DS#2. He will begin the remaining two years of college in January (Rutgers University). Three hundred of the savings was deposited to our Anniversary Party Fund. We are getting very close to fully funding the party budget. Well, on the house front, most boxes have been unpacked, garage cleaned out and ready for cars, most possession are in their rightful place, which makes this girl jump up and down with happiness!
