Aiming for a Healthy Me

July 26th, 2015 at 05:17 am

I finally decided to do something about my unhealthy lifestyle. My 50 year old sister is now on dialysis Frown and my father passed away from coronary heart disease at the age of 67. I don't want to find myself with the same problems. I also have to purchase work clothes and the thought of buying clothes the same size I wear now drives me batty. I don't like how I feel and my confidence is shaken due to the excess pounds. I'm on my second day of no soda; I have a heavy coca-cola drinker and I'm now avoiding bread. I am drinking a little of bit of coffee to avoid the no caffeine induced splitting headaches. Meals will be sensible, I'll walk at least 5 days a week and no grazing at night. To tie this to finances, I guess I will probably save money on the long run if I live a healthier lifestyle. Smile

Would you cheer for me? Smile

Yes, absolutely I will cheer for you.

I am so glad you are taking charge of your health. It's the most important thing you can do for yourself.

Would you consider becoming vegetarian, or even going vegan?

Thanks PatientSaver! I'm not much of a meat eater, but I do enjoy eating a piece of meat from time to time. My biggest downfall is the cakes, cookies, chips (junk food) and of course the darn soda! I'm not buying any of those items anymore; if they are in the house, it will be a huge temptation.

I will cheer for you Smile I need to do the opposite and put on some weight. It's not helping my confidence either.

I will cheer for you! I am trying to make similar changes -- more exercise, better food choices.

I'm cheering for you. I need to do the same with soda. I kicked soda (diet) a few years ago and over a year ago I went back! Ugh. I've been making green smoothies for at least one of my meals each day ( 1c water, several leaves of romaine lettuce, banana and 1c of frozen fruit, sometimes add chia seeds all mixed in a blender).

I too do a mini smoothie in the evening if I have any urge to graze. Since it worked so well to identify money leakage, I forced myself to write down every item I ate for 21 days. Very revealing how a handful of this or spoonful of that during baking and cooking adds to the waistline.

I used to laugh at my mom's trick of cooking extra old fashioned oatmeal to keep in the fridge for a late night snack. It's very satisfying if the others are snacking on junk food. This summer I've been avoiding wheat products, banana and all nuts but almonds to see if it makes any difference.

I am cheering for you!!! I figured out that I'd rather eat my calories than drink them... so I don't drink anything except water and tea. Make sure you have a "treat" day so you don't feel deprived! The walking is brilliant - BEST exercise!

Yay for you! I gave up Coca-Cola a number of years ago because I read drinking soda can present problems for people who have a family history of diabetes and I never could stand the diet stuff...it gave me a headache. Don't give up when the times get rough...you can do it! Any exercise is better than none and eating better will make you feel better. DH and I have been eating a lot better than we did 12-15 years ago and we notice we don't tend to be as sick as often and we do feel better. Plus any kind of movement is good.

Good for you! I really need to do the same. I do well for a while, and then get off track.

I recently read Judith Becks "The Diet Trap Solution" which I'm thinking about putting into practice. I just need to do it!
