Planning stages

November 22nd, 2015 at 06:50 am

Hubby and I are going to begin our search for a retirement home in late March. We decided that we will most likely retire in our parents' hometown and where I grew up until I was 12 years old. Our budget is not the greatest but we hope to stay at or under $100K, but we are willing to spend a bit more for a place closer to the beach. We are also planning on installing solar panels but not the ones companies offer (electricity rates are super high there). We want to be completely off the grid when it comes to powering the home. We will also have to attach a water cistern to the home just in case there are water shortages.

As for income, my husband's state pension will cover our living expenses there. As for our home in NJ, we plan to rent it for a while. We anticipate to have a $1,300.00 left over every month after property taxes and insurance policy are paid. We will also have a reserve just in case it becomes vacant or we have to do any repairs. Our sons will remain here and I know we can count on them to collect the rent and maintain it.

We will have to cover all our bases before we make the move.
