Weekly update

July 30th, 2016 at 10:24 am

I made the last college tuition payment today ever! Now that we do not have to pay for it anymore I will redirect those funds toward retirement. Today, I made a $200 contribution to my Roth. I intend to fully fund the Roth every year from this point forward. I'm also upping payroll deductions towards the 403B for a monthly contribution of $700. I'm not sure if I mentioned this but DS#2 got a job with New Jersey Natural Gas and making a decent wage for a 22 year old and will receive health benefit and a 401K with a company match of 6%. He is starting the full 6% contribution immediately. It is also nice that he will be able to finish his degree as well. He has a great work schedule 7:00-3:00 day shift.

DS#2 aged out of my health benefits but was able to secure benefits through his job and he is now on his own with auto insurance. We will get a $950 lump sum payment for switching from a family plan to just employee and spouse. Husband already gets a $5K for opting out of healthcare benefits.

On another note, we went to New York City with my brother and his family. They are visiting us for a few days. We went to Times Square, Empire State Building, Hershey store, Rockefeller Center, M&M Store, Nintendo store, Madison Square Park and took pictures of the Flatiron Building and St. Patrick's Cathedral. We also sat on the stairs of the New York City Public Library (my favorite landmark). We walked 6.5 miles and took over 13,000 steps! We took a taxi back to Penn Station. Overall, it was a really nice time. This was the first time his wife and children had traveled on a train before. Today we are going to eat authentic Mexican food. Their carnitas are to die for!

Well, this it for today! I hope you all have a great and frugal weekend!
