Weekly Frugal things/UFC/updates

July 19th, 2017 at 05:47 am

Although, I am not a big fan of AC, it is by far what I missed most from our old house. The fact that we were able to cool the entire house during heat waves was priceless. We are going to look into installing central air next spring. For now, I'm keeping curtains close and cooking meals outside on the grill or crockpot.

July 12-18 edition of frugality:
1. No hamburger buns so I used flour tortillas and made quesadilla burgers. (mea culpa)I should've checked to see if I still had burger buns. Turned out to be delicious.

2. Ran out of sandwich bread for my daily breakfast so I used Naan bread instead as toast. I love Naan bread!

3. I've not used the electric dryer at all.

4. I've been slowly emptying the freezers by not purchasing food items except for perishables.

5. Swept hardwood floors rather than vacuuming.

Frugal Fails:

-I threw a whole cantaloupe away because I waited too long to cut it.
-There is still a little bit of food waste but not as much as we used to.
-We ate out a few times this week. I'm trying to cut this back to just once a week.

UFC- I don't feel that I've been as mindful as I should be, but I will keep on trying.

Savings- We are now at 76.3% on our "Lofty Savings Goal. My goal is to continue as gazelle intense to reach the 100% mark.

AC is worth every dollar you pay for it definitely.

I agree that central air is PRICELESS. How I have appreciated it this first year of having it. It's hard to imagine how I got by the last 20 years!!

Since I am home all the time, I got into the habit of timing when i do laundry to when we have sunny, warm but low humidity days because that's the best conditions under which to line dry clothes. You're smart to avoid both the clothes dryer and the vacuum cleaner, both big energy hogs. Also irons.

Like you, I tend to let cantaloupes sit too long, often til they start to "dimple," because I want to make sure they're nice and sweet. But you can overdo that.

I concur, A/C is worth every penny. As someone with asthma, it makes breathing a whole lot easier.

Good ways to get around not having certain items like buns and bread. You are very resourceful.

Are you filling your freezer with water jugs so it doesn't work harder with your emptying it by using stuff?

    AC is the bomb. Smile
