Books and Library

March 6th, 2018 at 06:30 am

One of my goals this year is to read at least 12 books. I know it is not a lot but I just want to get back to it. I decided that I will not be purchasing any books and use our town's public library. My library stub states how much I've saved by borrowing books from the library and mine sits at $32. I am on my fourth book now. So far, I've read the following:

Wonder (borrowed this one from a student)
The bridges of Madison County (old book but I loved it)
Little Fires Everywhere

I saved $4 last month by checking movies out from the library instead of renting them from Family Video! Both were new releases, The Snowman and Happy Death Day. My family is currently appreciating the horror and mystery genres. Smile

I recently finished a sweet book called Merle's Door by outdoor writer Ted Kerasote. Merle was a homeless golden retriever who adopted Ted when he was on a rafting trip in Colorado. Unlike most pet owners who dominate their animals, the author was big on letting the dog make his own decisions, and it leads to some entertaining and interesting reading.

Good for you -- reading and using the library. Our library does the same thing showing how much money we saved. They have been doing it for almost a year and I'm up to over $2K.

    I've read Wonder (love!)

I'm also on a book reading kick. I'm doing pretty much all fiction. I've tried adding in non-fiction, but I keep choosing the fiction books ... Smile I'm on #11 I think.

No, I don't think so. Research materials on the Internet tend to do not have the profundity that paper-and-ink books have. I've heard the Internet depicted as "a mile wide and an inch down," which means you can discover shallow data about pretty much anything, yet you can't do any genuine research. For that, you require a genuine book.
