2018 Wins and Fails

December 29th, 2018 at 05:47 pm

Here we go:

I finally had the courage to put my mental and physical health first and gave notice at work that I will not be returning. This was not easy but needed to be done. I rather do with a lot less and safeguard my well being.

We were able to purchase the retirement home we wanted for a long time.

I funded my ROTH IRA in full for the second year in a row.

Avoided PMI on our retirement home by putting 20% down.

Cash flowed the purchase of all of the furniture and necessities on our second home.

Grossly underestimated the amount of money we needed to furnished the our second home.

I am still paying on a membership that I am not using.

Eating out has been more that it should.

Fail to find a way to wipe our cable TV bill. (We got a Fire Stick an a year membership to Amazon Prime for Christmas so I am working on it).

Safeguarding our health is so important! You did really well. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with some fails/setbacks!

I retired early and took a hit pension wise. I could have signed a four year letter and got raise for 4 years, but to be honest, a friend of mine who was on the same step did that and all the did for the extra two years (I retired before her) was complain how unhappy she was. She wound up on antidepressant medicine and her health took a hit. I'm with you. I would rather make do on less and enjoy life some. And the funny thing is, I don't feel like I've missed out on anything. I tease my husband and ask if he's going to get me a big honking diamond or a puppy or a horse and a walk in pantry and it is all in fun. I have no place to wear fancy jewelry. As lovely and fun as animals are, they are a huge responsibility. And pantry would be a blessing, but it would mean either losing out one some other space in the house or building on which would mean mess and bother. So, I don't need any of them, but it doesn't hurt to tease DH anyway because he knows I'm teasing.
