Stretching our money

June 9th, 2019 at 04:25 pm

I make most our meals from scratch, but we buy a lot of prepared snacks and those tend to be pricey. I am now force to reduce/eliminate them from our grocery budget as I really need to stretch our money. Today, I made homemade granola and banana bread muffins with chocolate sprinkles in the batter. Initially, the intention was to make granola bars but it did not work out. I opted to have it as granola crumbles. It is indeed delicious. I have chocolate sprinkles sitting in the cupboard for a while and I decided to add about half of a cup to the banana batter. The muffins are amazing!

Snacks for this week will be: apples, bananas, homemade granola and banana with chocolate sprinkles muffins.

Fruit is an excellent snack! Lately I've been liking celery as a snack rather than chips!

I make crockpot granola which my family either snacks on or has for breakfast.

I need to improve in this area as well; it's been convenience foods (mostly Trader Joe's soups and frozen foods) since my husband is recovering from gall bladder surgery since lat Wednesday and the stress has caught up with me and I'm sick.

Good job on your efforts! Smile

Sounds good! Probably healthier than the store bought stuff too.

    Nice job with the planning.

Nuts also make a good snack. I mix and match raw nuts, sometimes nus mixed in a bag with cocoa powder, sometimes with some tajin or other spice.
